Demon decals stuck to (wax paper) cover
Posted by derekms on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 5:06 PM

I opened up my old (1991) Emhar F3H-2 Demon and the wax paperlike protection film was stuck to the front of the decal sheet. I pulled the protective film from the decals (wheteher I should have done this or not I don't know) and they appear OK, except they appear duller in some spots then others. I have a similar problem with an old Matchbox Hawker Hunter as well (Although I was going to use alternate markings for the Hunter anyway). Well, if I coat the decasl with Testors decal bonder spray or Superscale Superfilm (Since I have both) do you think the decals are savable?

I am not familiar with Emhars decals nor have I used decals before with this problem. I plan on using some replacement decals if I can find some of superscales for the Demon that was out a while ago.

Also when this occurs should I cut them out with the paper still on and dip them in the water or should I remove the paper first (too late this time but want to know for future reference).

Thanks,

I just had a similar problem with a new kit. The best solution is to get new decals if you can. Using one of the decal film solutions should work as long as all the original carrier film is gone, but you will have to cut each decal close because of the excess film.

Prevention is the best cure. I put all decals in a sealable plastic bag as soon as I get a kit. This protects them from humidity and scratches.

Ross Martinek A little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing… Wink
