Aftermarket Decals

I agree with Drew; the quality of most aftermarket decals is first-rate.   The main thing that concerns me now is accuracy.  For instance, some decals might have the wrong colors or be the wrong size.  All manufacturers suffer from this to one degree or another, it just depends on how much research they do and the references that are available.  If possible, I would recommend checking a decal sheet to the specific aircraft you are modeling.

Drew also mentioned Sky Decals, and I agree you get the most bang for the buck with them.  They also look great and go down very well.  However, I discovered that they have some accuracy issues.  For instance, I have one of their P-40 sheets and discovered that the artwork for the nose is the same.  I mean exactly the same, so that it faces forward on one side of the nose and aft on the other, when in reality the markings should face forward on both sides.   Just a cost-cutting measure on their part.

Most all of the a/m decals are good to great quality consistantly. They need to be to stay in buisness, we thrive on and demand it. I have had a bad sheet a couple of times, mostly due to old age. They are usually (not allways) better than kit decals in quality of printing and their reacting to setting solutions. You listed the best known and the largest two ( aeromaster and superscale), but I have used others with just as good results.

Best a/m decals I have used?....... Yellowhammer........Super thin, no setting solutions needed, conformed to all recessed detail with no help, white ink very opaque dark blue didn't show through and it was in the unit markings I wanted (most important).

Best bang for the buck, I think it's Sky Models Decals. 20+ unit markings on one sheet for about $10.
