Hi Zip,

a bit more info for you. The link below is a page with a listing of all 1/72 B-25 kits, decals, resin, etc etc.

http://www.72scale.com/aircraft/NA/B-25.htm

Doesn't appear to be a B-25D, although a conversion does exist.

I'm having a 'time out' here at work and got to do some more browsing for you...try this: http://www.deanshobbystop.com/product.php?productid=2694&cat=0&page=1 They seem to have 2 copies of the sheet you are looking for.

This company is in Europe, but they have 2 sheets left as well: http://www.aviationmegastore.com/?shopid=LM44c89a173ad8d120059498f493&action=prodinfo&parent_id=0&art=33535

Hey Zip I get what you're trying to do. I've been trying to find an RC-135 to do up as the plane my dad was on. I sent you a PM.

Hi Zip,
no problem. I missed the 1/48 part of your original post...a blond moment I think Blush [:I]

Good luck with the build. What are you going to do? Scan the 1/72 and enlarge them to 1/48 and print them yourself?

Paul

No what I'm going to do is try to find a 1/72 scale B-25. I looked on Squadron but I didn't see the D model. Mostly J models which I thought was the model of his plane. Come to find out there was a mixture of J and D models in his bomber group. The J and D models where released at the same time. I think the only difference between the two models were the guns. I'll have to do some research to be sure but I may have to convert a J model into a D model if I can't find one in 1/72.

Agian Paul thanks so much for your help.

You could also take them to a professional printing shop. I have some being scaled up from 48 to 32 for a British corsair. They make any color changes and can touch up any areas that are needed. It doesn't cost too much compared to other ways. I get mine done for about $20. But I usually need artwork done and such.

Take this plastic and model it!

Hey Paul,

Back in another forum acouple months back I got a link to what we thought was my pop's plane. That's the decal sheet I told you I saw with my own eyes. I emailed the person but he said he doesn't sell them he only reveiws them so he couldn't help me. Well I just went back to that post and looked and those are the same decals you just showed me! They are my pop's plane. They are 1/72 scale but that's OK. Now I need to find out if they have them in stock! Thanks soooooo much. I owe ya.

Hi Zip,
the sheet you're looking for is Superscale 72692.
go here:
http://www.rare-planedetective.com/decalsforsale.htm#MICRO/SUPERSCALE
and scroll down a bit, or just search for 'thumper.' They have the sheet you are looking for at $5 plus $3 for shipping. It describes them as for a B-25D though?

Have fun!!

Thanks Paul.... but.. the decals are in 1/72 scale which if I had to I wouldn't mind building but also there were a number of planes with "little thumper" as nose art. I really would like to exhaust all resources before I start to find a Mitchel in 1/72. My pop was with me when we picked out the Revell and he was with me, and watching when I started it. I really appreciate your help but I hope you understand why I need to have 1/48 scale. Ya know I really don't mind if it's for a different plane as long as I can find the noseart "Little Thumper" I can get the rest of the markings just about anywhere. Again I really do appreciate your help and I hope we all keep it in the back of our mind when looking up decals. I wouldn't be so insistant if I hadn't seen the decal sheet with my own eyes.

Again thank you very much

Cool Zip - I've been on a quest to find the markings for ANY B-25 of the 13th AAF, (any squadron) as my great uncle flew with them in the S. Pacific... I'm running against blank walls so far...  I'm still trying to nail down which squadron he was in, so just the Lorraine cross insignia they had on their tails would be enough for me.  (I am going to attempt to do them on Testors decal paper on the B-25J I am building presently)

Congrats on the markings!

---Tom--- O' brave new world, That has such people in it!

Quest for my pop's plane markings
Posted by zipmeister on Saturday, July 22, 2006 12:40 AM

Hey guys,

I'm trying to locate my pop's noseart and markings. He flew in a B-25j with the 5th in the 501st Bomber Squadron out of New Guinea. His plane was named "Little Thumper". I've seen the decal sheet before several time. Some thoughtful people have sent me pics of the decal sheet. When I enquire about them, the place is either out of business or the pic was old and they no longer carry that particular decal sheet. Then they usually give me another lead. I am fresh out of leads. I'm hoping someone out there may have a new lead. My pop would have loved this build. I'm building the Revell B-25J 1/48. Some of the decals that came with the kit are of other planes from his bomber squadron.

Thank you
