Quest for B-25B Mitchell - Doolittle Raider decals
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 31, 2006 2:28 PM

Long ago, when I was a kid (around 1970), I built a B-25B Mitchell "Doolittle Raider" plane by Revell (1:48 scale). I never got the decals on, and of course, lost them somewhere over the years.

I'm now wanting to finish this plane but having a heck of a time finding decals for this model. Most of the after-market brands I've seen (Microscale, Aeromaster, etc) are for later model B-25's which don't have the right markings. For example, they have the "stars-and-bars" USA insignia instead of the round with red dot in center.

I haven't tried contacting Revell, but I doubt they sell decal sets for ancient models like this. I've seen this exact boxed model for sale on eBay (circa late 60's/ early 70's) but I hate to buy a whole model just to get the right decals.

Can anyone point me to the right resouce for either original replacement Revell decals for this model or else a reasonably accurate aftermarket replacement?

TIA,

Phil

Phil,

If you don't find the actual sheet, you can piece the decals together from other sources.  The star with center dot is on the CAM 48-A017 sheet, in various sizes.  The "U.S. ARMY" marking in .50" (scale 2'-0") might be harder to find (try Super Scale 48-636 if you can find one) , but you can probably make one with an ink jet printer.

If you can find an Aeromaster 72-167, "US 45 Degree ID Numbers and Letters (Yellow)--unfortunately OOP--you can get close to the tail numbers.

I've included a photo of the Accurate Miniatures B-25B "Doolittle Raider" decal sheet, which has the correct markings for all 16 aircraft, to use as a guide.

Hope this helps.
