Looking for Big Beautiful Doll decals
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 8, 2006 12:22 PM
I have search the web over looking for these decals but have not found any in 48th or 32nd scale. The set that came with my plane are tearing up as I apply them so I might have to order the kit again to get the decals to use. One question that I would like to ask is if I took those decals and scan them and printed them onto some decale paper to have spares. Will this work and what kind of supplies would I need to make this work. I have a Epson CX7800 scanner printer combo. Or do I need an ink jet printer. Totally new to this stuff.

First thing you can try is to rescue the ones you still have. You need a bottle of microscale liquid decal film. Then brush on a light coat over each decal image and let it dry. Then, carefully, you can use them as normal. This puts a thin film on top of the images to create a skin and hold them together for you.

The printer you have should be fine if you tried to print your own decals. You need to find the decal paper for printers. It's not the same decal paper. You will need to decide what type of paper too. Clear or white? If you need white, remember printers don't print white. Normal decal paper will have the inks 'puddle' up on the paper. But after that you will need to coat the images with a clear coat. Most printer inks are water based, so......Whistling [:-^] Again, you should have the microscale liquid decal film for this. You can use a clear laquer to top coat them also. Don't use an acrylic clear for the decals. I think you see where that will wind up. Taped Shut [XX]Hope it helps a bit.Big Smile [:D]

If you're looking for them in 48th scale, send me a message.  I'm at work now but I'm pretty sure I have 2 complete sets (1 Testors/1 Monogram) of BBD at home.

At the very least- check Walmart. They may have the 1/48 P-51 with those decals. Might b e cheaper to buy the kit than pay for decals. You'll get a kit AND decals. [;-)]

I have a set, minus the checkerboards..... I ruined those and just stopped. the kit is waiting for me to decide it's fate. Darn checkerboards.

Yes, these checkers are a pain in the butt. I went ahead and reorderd the kit to get the decals. I will scan these and try my had at printing them on decal paper. One other thought that I had was taking the scan and making a template and useing that template to airbrush on the checkes. That would look killer.
