Hey all,

We have been using Alps printers for over 4 years at CustomHobbyDecals.com and still use them for our smaller orders. If you go to the site and click on "application instructions" at the top right, that will tell you everything you need to know. As far as somebody mentioned about some of the yellows being "dotty" that should never happen. There are about 200 different print settings one can use on an alps printer and by using different printing styles the only colors that are absolutely impossible to get dot free are fleshtones, oranges, and certain grays.

thanks for the reply.

I was looking over an excellent set I have from Fireball models for AH1 Cobras, and its very nice, some of the yellows are a bit "dotty" in the cavalery sabres but otherwise the clarity of the markings is incredible and crisp.

thanks forth heads up, Ill proceed as normal.

David

I have used them a few times.  The decals have to be cut out individually since they are printed on a single carrier sheet.  The ones I used, from Mike Grant Decals and a set printed by a friend, were very thin and went done nicely just using Micro Set.  I was leery about using anything stronger fearing they might be damaged.  The image is somewhat delicate so they need to be handled with care both before and after application. I have not tried over coating them with a decal fixative spray, before cutting them out,  but I don't see why that would not work but it should not be necessary.

APPLYING ALPS decals
Posted by PatlaborUnit1 on Monday, November 27, 2006 2:57 PM

HI everyone.

I did a search for ALPS and came up with dozens of threads of how to make decals but Im interested in how to APPLY them. Years of decal experience here, but I dont want to screw up this special-order sheet coming speical out of Asia.

THis will be going onto compound curves with panel lines (MG Kempfer kit) so they will need to settle and apply over somwhat spherical surfaces.

What are the pros and cons on this application?

thanks in advance

David
