"Unadilla Killa"
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 10, 2003 10:38 AM
I vaguely remember seeing a decal sheet with this named aircraft. I believe it was a P-47 Thunderbolt or a P-51 Mustang in the European theater of operations (W.W.II). I would also like to know who was the pilot and what is the significance of the name (a hometown? where?). Also, does anyone know what happened to the decal manufacturer Super Scale International, Inc.? Are they still in business? If not, are their decals still available?

Super Scale is still in business. You can look them up on the net. They only sell to distributors, no direct sales. Several of the bigger mail order houses carry them. You can do a search by subject and scale.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

Hi Mike,
I have a book mentioning "Unadilla Killa" as a P47D of the 354th Fighter Group, Ninth Air Force, Serial No.228790. No mention of the pilot. The book is called "Republic P47 Thunderbolt (The Operational Record)". By author Jerry Scutts. Hope this helps a little.
Cheers.... Snowy.

I realise this thred is now over 3 years old, here's hoping the OP still cares.

The Unadilla Killa was a P-47D-28 #42-28790 of the 355th Fighter Squadron, 354th Fighter Group (the Pugnacious Pups), 9th Air Force. The plane was named after the hometown (Unadilla NY) of it's pilot Lt. Russell H. Kline and was based at Rosieres-en-Haye Air Base in France. Lt. Kline was credited with 1 kill over an FW190 on December 18 1944. Hope that helps.

If it is still pertinent to anyone, I have more information on Russell Kline. I'm a relative.

Hi Lance,

What relation are you?  He was my uncle married to my fathers sister Gladys.  I posted some great pics on Facebook that he took in the Korean war.  He also flew P-51D at the end of WWII, and I believe F-80's and F-86 in Korea, then pissed off a General in Alaska and got sent to Vietnam to fly spotter/observers.  What a fall!

You must be a Coleman!

Gladys was my father's cousin. I'm the son of Gerald Wood. I have a Luger he brought back from WW2.

My mom says he also flew B-47's for SAC, which I always thought was a little odd. He also flew A-1 Skyraiders in Vietnam. I have a picture of him in front of them.

What did he do to *** off the general?

Hello Lance & Coleman,

Are you guys still around?

If so, can you please tell me where I might find more pictures of, P-47 'Unadilla Killa', and of it's pilot, your relative, Lt. Russell H. Kline.

Thanks, Andrew
