Posted by semibold on Friday, October 26, 2007 1:59 PM

i am having trouble getting a good snug fit around the nose/cowling area of my 47D. i am using solveset and it helps a little. the problem i am having is that i am getting akward folds and bubbles and also getting the edges to stick good to the inner rim of the engine intake. i look at images like this and it frustrates the heck out of me. how are yu guys getting these so smooth?

If you're getting weird folds or bubbles, try cutting the decal into smaller, more manageable pieces.  Just use a new #11 blade and a straight edge.  And if possible, try cutting along lines where the cut won't be obvious.

It takes many applications of a setting solution to set them on compound curves. You have to apply, let dry and keep applying until they lay down. Then let dry overnight. If you still have bubbles and folds, apply setting solution again.

Sometimes you might need to make a small relief cut.  Where you get the crease, make a cut with a new #10 blade with a rocking motion. Let the decal over lap and make the same cut again at the edge of the top part of the decal. Gently peel it back and remove the piece underneath.  It should lay flatter and the seam should be barely visible.  Practice with some extra decal first.

Some people use nitro thinner on difficult decals.

Here's an article about nitro thinner as a setting solution
