Decal removal
Posted by kaimuki21 on Saturday, November 8, 2003 11:53 AM
I need to remove and reuse a small decal from a rear wheel gear door. I lost the original piece in the model and couldn't get it out so I made another one that didn't have the photo etched backing. Of course the thing fell out after I had made and painted a new one. I'd like to put the original door back on but need the off white invasion stripe decal from the replacement. How can I get the decal off and reuse it? It's been on for about 3 days and hasn't been coated with any sealant. Thanks.

Funny you should ask that question, I just dealt with a similar problem and was able to save a decal that had been put down with micro-set and micro-sol and dried for 36 hours. Use a soft wide brush and wet the decal with water and a little micro-set, let it soak for five minutes or so then start to push the bristles against the decal to get the edge to lift. This is the hardest part. Once the edge has lifted keep gently pushing the bristles under it until it is loose. I did a large wing decal and it took about 15 minutes to get it free. You can read about this and see pictures here...http://www.swannysmodels.com/RS14build.html

Thanks for the advice. The edges are starting to lift off but there are some recessed lines that are taking some time.

Patience - it takes a little time but it will work.
