I can't speak specifically to the EtchMate as I have the Small Shop 5-speed, but as to a folding tool in general - well worth the investment! You can get one of Small Shop's tools for $30-40, and that is pretty good for a tool that will probalby last a lifetime and does exactly what it was designed for.

I've had the Hold-n-Fold.  It was a good too, but I used to get annoyed with constantly tightening and untightening the screw.  I bought Tamiya's Bending Pliers and really like them.  They're "spring" activated, so you just squeeze the handle, bend, and release.  Because of the shape of the jaws, which are shaped just like the Hold-n-Fold, you can bend past 90 degrees.

Using the Bender

You can get the PE bender cheaper than from TamiyaUSA.

I agree with Gerald. Get one that fits your modeling and your budget.

If you want an idea of how to use one, look here

Take this plastic and model it!

Personally I prefer the original...Hold n Fold...they're definitely worth it.

Visit here and here to read more about what I've said about their products.
