30 degree Tajima snap off blades, and NT Cutter.
Posted by Satori on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 4:47 PM

Popular brand of utility knife in Japan, I bought a couple while I was there, without realizing what they are. They have 30 degree tips, and much sharper than utility blades we see here.

Stupid me, didn't buy any replacement blades.... Among other uses, I find it extraordinarily suited for sheering photo etch pieces off the frets. Unlike xacto blades, it doesn't drag, cuts PE off like butter.

Apparently, stores in the US only carry 60 degree versions of replacement blades.
LCB-30, 9mm. This is available in the US.

What I'm looking for is this:

Any ideas?

I also bought a NT-Cutter utility knife there that came with 45 degree blades. Which is also good but obviously the tip is a little wider. Evidently, that isn't avaliable in the US either. Again, only 60 degree blade replacements.

You should be able to mail (internet) order them from someone?

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I can't find a U.S vender for them. I messaged that guy, no response from him yet.

Is this close enough?  This Olfa knife with snap-off blades looks to me to have the acute angle you want.  This is a good US seller of Olfa products, and they have the replacement blades and handle in stock.

Yes, that is a good find JML.
Honestly, the price is still uncomfortable even with their discount, but that's definitely an option if all others failed.

I ordered a handle and three replacement packs.  Looks like a good tool to have around, to supplement my other hobby knives.  The regular Olfa snap-off blades are what I have in my other similar holders, and they definitelylast longer than anything else I have tried, except for the Tajima replacement blades, which last as long.  And Olfa even has shaper blades available...

The Olfa blades and handle arrived today.  The 30-degree blades are incredibly sharp!  It seems like things will slice on their own if you threaten the parts by bringing the blade nearby...

The thin stainless handle is nice, and has a pocket clip at the back end.  Looks almost identical to the Tajima, frankly. But the 9mm blades will fit in standard handles -- if you like a large handle, Irwin makes a superb one.  Stainless blade holder, heavy-duty plastic and elastomer handle, and the magazine holds three blades (autofill).
