Non-Fogging CA?
Posted by Bioya on Sunday, March 29, 2009 5:26 PM
I heard that a type of CA known as "Gold" or "Foam Safe" will not fog clear canopies. Is this true? If so, is there a brand name to look for?

There are various brands and formulations of "non-fogging," "odorless," or "non-blooming" cyanoacrylates.  These have a different chemical composition that doesn't result in fogging or white desposits (the evaporating chemical in most of the regular glues redesposits on the material, resulting in problems).  They're Alkoxyethyl cyanoacrylates.

The Bob Smith Industries glues come in two such varieties, and are often sold in stores with the store label stuck on:  "Super Gold" and "Super Gold +" which refers to the thin and thick viscosities, respectively.  I use them, and Loctite 460 and 403.  There are others available from more makers.

Good stuff!

But they would not be my first choice for clear parts cement, unless you need relative permanency and significant strength.  There are other cements that work well for clear parts, such as GS Hypo Cement, Testor's Clear Parts Cement, white glue, matte varnish, etc.

Just dip your canopies in Future...it will protect them from fogging due to CA vapors/fumes.
