Super glue tips

Darren Scannel of the Resin Shipyard has this method posted on his website.   He also has demonstrated it at several conventions & shows.

I've used his method using DUBRO R/C control sheathing  as the material.   It is available at any hobby shop which caters to R/C.  For about $2.50 you can get several dozen glue tips.   If the end clogs,  nip away about an eigth of an inch and continue gluing. 

I use Teflon tubing that many of the CA manufacturers offer. This stuff lasts me a long time. I just trim the applicator needle back enough to allow the insertion of the tubing. A little CA around the joint and it is sealed. If the tube gets a clog at the end, a snip and it is ready to use again. A small package of this stuff is about a foot or so in length and lasts me for years.

 

Thanks for the info guys. Exactly what I was looking for. I checked the LHS for the control sheath tubing and they looked at me like I grew a second head. And they are RC aircraft heavy! I havent seen any of the teflon tubing available locally yet but will keep watching. Might be an online order coming up.

When you use the tubing applicator method, what do you use to cap it so the CA doesn't set up in the bottle?

I've found this to not be a problem in need of a solution. I normally keep a bottle of Instant Jet sitting on my bench with the tiny tubing available at all times, including off season when I don't model much or any at all. So far the bottle has not turned into a CA bottle shaped mass of cured CA brick. I don't know if it's because the tiny amount of product exposed to the air or what but it's never been an issue.
And like Gerald said, if the end plugs up then the tube is effectively capped and a small snip is all thats needed to begin using it again.

Nothing. The tube is so small air doesn't travel through it easily. Sure over time the CA will setup in the bottle, but not for months. I used small bottles, less gets wasted that way.

If you want to cap the tube. Just dip in into a drop of accelerator. You might have to squeeze a drop of CA to the tip of the tube.
