I recently purchased a bottle of Testors Liquid Cement (black odd-shaped bottle with red label), and I was wondering about the correct way to apply it. In my youth I used to use the Testors glue that came in the orange or red tube, but it seems the Testors Liquid Cement is much more popular these days, so I decided to give it a shot.
Ok, so my question is...does this new product work the same way as the old stuff, i.e. you apply a thin bead of the cement along the edge of one part, then mate that part with the other part/assembly you want to glue it to, apply pressure or clamp, and then set to dry? Or, are you supposed to first hold the parts together, and THEN apply the cement to the seam, allowing capillary action to take effect?
I think the source of my confusion is (and correct me if I'm wrong), that there are actually two different kinds of Testors liquid cement. The first is the type which I purchased, which is thicker, and applies in essentially the same way as the old tube glues, but simply works better than those old tube glues did. The second is the the thinner type of liquid cement, different from what I bought, which is kind of runny, comes in a glass bottle, and is applied using a brush, and normally works via capillary action where the two pieces are put together first.
Is that correct? In any case, what is the best way to apply the stuff that I have? Parts together first? Parts separate?
