I bought this http://www.micromark.com/THIRD-HAND-WITH-LIGHT,9379.html few years ago from Micromark. But after getting this one http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM74092. My modeling experience change. I can see a lot more. Theres more freedom of movement compared to a magnifying glass on stand. My reaction was just "wow".
I have been thinking about getting one of these head mounted magnifing glasses. I have been using a desk lamp wthat is 3X, but would like the felxibility of the glasses type.
What do you all use?

What's the focal distance? I picked up some over-the-glasses magnifiers a few months back, but they only focus out to like six inches, so they aren't very useful at all.

I also bought an optional 2x manifier loupe like this. It really helps alot when I paint figures or small details.

Personally,,,I use the over the counter magnifying reading glass bought at drugstores.
They come in various magnification and seem to be the most comfortable to work with, also they are much cheaper.

I use a ring light magnifier (desk lamp) like you. I also buy cheap reading glasses. I ordinarily use just the lamp portion and the reading glasses, but when I really need closeup, I use the magnifier on the lamp with the reading glasses on, and really get a good view. I think my reading glasses are 1.8 power.
My desklamp/magnifier also has good positioning clamps and springs. This is real important when airbrushing, so you can adjust the lamp to just where you need. Yes, I airbrush right at my bench, use my spray booth just for rattle cans. I use low pressure (15 - 20 pounds) and fine spray, so I get little overspray. Being able to see reflection of light on part being painted is important for gloss finishes.

Care must be taken with the Optivisor. If you build 5 tanks models in 1/144 scale in a row... your eyes look like this permanently.

I pimped up my optivisor by getting one of those hunter's head lamps at Lowe's and taping it to the head band of my visor. Now when I need extra light to see really small parts and especially for air brushing I just push the little button switch and light galore!

Just launched: Revell 1/249 U.S.S. Buckley w/ after market PE and guns.
Building: Italieri 1/35 P.T. 596 w/ Lion Roar PE.
That looks pretty sweet. With it coming with a light makes it that much sweeter :) 15 dollars is a good deal too.
