Have you considered CO2 to power your 'brush?

I switched to it about 8 months ago, never go back to compressors...

Silent, less parts to wear out, no issues with condensation(CO2 is a dry gas). I love the fact that there is no pulsation of air pressure compared to "reservoir-less" compressors...pressure adjustment is painless, just a turn of the regulator's adjustment knob.

Unless you live in Siberia, tank switching/re-filling is no problem...About $15 to fill a 20lb. tank...there are about 5 places I can go in the Metro Denver area.

All said, $60 for the tank(full tank + 1 time deposit), $50 for the regulator & about 6 bucks worth of fittings at my local Ace Hardware store...

Just my 2 cents

I know nothing of modeling compressors, but a note of caution on Sears: I have one of their one gallon models I use in my garage for general utility. Works well, but the motor is loud. I'd hate to try and use it indoors. I'm assuming those made for use with an airbrush are quieter.

Try TCP global.  They have some decent ones...they also have an ebay store that you can get them cheaper than their main store. I got the TC-20T  which has a tank and a regulator for under $100 on ebay.

It may not be the best thing since sliced bread, but it serves my purpose (I am a slow airbrusher) and is much quieter than the pancake one I got from Lowes.

In that price range, you should look at Sears, Home Depot, etc and see waht they have in terms of tank compressors, I have had mine for years, but it came wtih a decent regulator that I later added to with an in line reglator.

Similar discussions are frequent in the "painting and airbrushing" forum.  I'd suggest asking the same question there- you may find more discussion.

I need a new compressor that is in the $150-$200 price range, and was wondering what modeling air compressor would you recommend?

A low cost one with a tank and regulator would be great
