When I read Phil H's reply, I thought he was being facetious, so I made a facetious answer. Of course I take the backing off. I also cut it into thin strips. Maybe, I just got some that was too old. It has hardly any stick.
Like you do to detack masking tape, stick it to your arm first. You want it to really stick good if you are doing heavy scribing. Never apply it to a painted surface!

No, peeling the back off makes it too sticky!
I recently picked some up at Target in the Stationary department.
Nice thing about it is the backing is slit down the middle so you get twice as much use out of it and being clear you can position it easier.
PritMar I cannot make the stuff stick to my models. Is there a magic trick?

Did you peel the backing off?
Cadet Chuck I'm surprised to hear it's still available. That stuff goes way back to the early 70's!

Its older than that! The military was using it back as early as the late 50's. I know my dad was labeling stuff in the 60's with it.
It looked like it had been there since the 70s! :)
Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
Alright I found some at a nearby Wallyworld. Packaging looked like it had been there a LONG time!
Thanks so much

Well I guess I need to pop over to Wallyworld and/or Michael's
Or a craft store like Michaels

Wal-Mart. Office/School supply section. Cheap.
Hello all,
So I am trying to find some of this 'magical' Dymo tape used to guide scribing....and have had no luck. Obviously I can find it online but the cost of shipping it makes it pretty uneconomical. I have been to a Staples and an Office Max here locally(Chandler, AZ) and all they have is the thinner stuff that is printed on, not embossed. I am wondering if perhaps there are some other places to look or maybe a different material that you would recommend.
