I just got one with a 2gl tank.  Works pretty good.  Just make sure you have a good regulator/pressure gauge on it.  The one I use is like $55 at Menards.  "Tool Shop" brand 1/3HP.  I got mine for about $25 cause a guy near me on Craigslist bought it for air tools and found out it wasn't enough for what he needed to do.  But for an airbrush, it's perfect.

Hi guys!

I'm considering purchasing a second air compressor that's smaller than what I have now.  Does anyone have an air compressor with a 2 gallon tank?  I just mainly build 1/48 scale planes.  Will the 2g tanks hold enough air to do the job?

Thanks!

Eric

I have an Iwata Smart Jet compressor. Bought a 3 gal tank off of ebay that was originally part of a Campbell-Housfeld compressor and plumbed it to the smart jet. Works most excellently.

You are very welcome mate. This is the same exact one I have. It is one more gallon (3 gallons). I got it originally with your same intentions, it has a moisture trap and it is ready to airbrush but I couldn't take how loud it is. The moisture trap was another $20 at Sears. It is not as big as it looks.

Thanks guys (or should I say "tanks!"  Get it?).  I've read some good reviews about those two gallon compressors.  However, I did see a couple that said they were quite loud just as you had mentioned El Taino.

Does anyone have any opinion as to what a good air compressor would be to consider if I was looking for something smaller than my current 6g tank, was nice and quiet, good quality and low in price?

Thanks!

Eric

If you are thinking one of those from Sears, I guess it would do the job. But I don't know if you or your other half is up to the noise. I have a 2 gallon compressor in the garage for low air tires, basket ball, etc. At least for me the noise is deafening.  I currently use a Badger and Paasche but I'm considering a move to a CO2 tank.
