<Chuckle> I bought my first draftsman’s erasing shield for about 35¢ over 45 years ago. Even though I have bought others (with different shapes), with minimal care, the [dinkywongo] thing is nearly unkillable!

You might want to check out an Alumicolor 6-inch mini. Anodized aluminum. About $6 (I think I paid $2 back in the day). They come in various colors: natural (aluminum), black, blue, gold, and red. They’re handy when one needs to measure something in an exceptionally confined space. They slide into a shirt-pocket like a pencil; unfortunately they also will fall out of your shirt-pocket like a pencil.

D'OH!  Stupid nannybot censor!  It excised part of my post.  The Blick art store chain is D+i+c+k Blick.  Here's their website:  http://www.dickblick.com/

That'll probably get censored, too.

Try Michael's or AC Moore; I got a thin steel template at my local Michael's, for something like $1.99.  You might find an appropriate template at HobbyLobby, too.  I don't recall having seen any at my local Hobbytown.

Beyond that, try artist supply or drafting supply stores.  We have a local store from the *** Blick chain, as well as a couple of local independent stores that carry templates and flexible rules that will work.

Hope that helps!

Brad

.and don't forget to look on-line for a discount coupon for either store.

I use a aircraft nameplate from a PE set. It's only about 2" long by about 3/8th wide. Bends easy, and is big enough.

What you might have seen is a draftsman eraser shield.I have one from my draftsman days in the late 80's early 90's and I use it for rescribing. Its a piece of thin metal about 3x4 inches and has various shapes cut out of it. Try a drafting store or maybe a Staples. Hope this helps....

Metal ruler/stencil for scribing around curves?
Posted by vaw1975 on Monday, March 21, 2011 11:36 AM

Good day everyone,

I saw on some video how someone re-scribes panel lines around fuselage tops and bottoms using a very thing flexible metal ruler which was also a template/stencil for circles and other shapes. Does anyone know where I can buy that? I can't find anything like it online so far.

Thanks,

Vivian
