Photo Etch Bending Advice
Posted by P mitch on Sunday, August 21, 2011 6:06 AM

I'm working with more and more Etch these days so looking for advice on which is the best tool from people who actually use it. I've seen the Mission Model ones but read some not exactly positive reviews and the same with the Hold and Fold ones. So someone give me some ideas on ones you have and would you buy them again

Thanks in advance

Pmitch

I have the Mission Models 3C and its ok for larger items. But i don't really use it that mutch. Most of the time i use a pair of flat nosed pliars as i find these mutch easier to use and they are always at hand. But since i bought the Etch Mate, i have only done 72nd aircrfat. I think i will be useing it more when i get round to 35th Armour PE.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Like Bish I have a fancier bending tool, but most of the time I either use pliers or two X-acto knives.

Go with the originals from the Small Shop and you'll be more than satisfied. The Bug will probably meet your needs.

Understand that MM didn't mfr their own products and getting anything from them is getting increasing difficult.

I second the Bug... It's great. Much easier to use than the plastic/ composite tools. I think it is all aluminum.

THIRD! While you’re at the Small Shop, be sure to check out their Brass-Assist Tool, roughly $75 incl. shipping, but AWESOME. I first noticed it in Armour Modelling by John Prigent.

I would also say to go with Small Shop tools.

I have an EtchMate 3C and love it.  Great for larger items.  For smaller stuff, I usually just use to razor blades.

Hawkeye hit it on the head. Small tool shop has a few styles of photoetch benders, all are great tools.

I fourth the Bug!  I only do small parts and it's definitely the right tool for the job!

I have the Bug and I love it too.  Got it last June for my birthday.  But I noticed that if I turn the bolt only couple of times, the top part would go loose from the base.  I don't think it was supposed to happen like this.  Anybody with The Bug having same experience?

Not sure if there is something wrong with it that I need to send it back for repair or replacement...

Just bought the Hold and fold 5 inch model. It is supposed to deliver today. I am excited as I have a couple of builds coming up that have PE and I have really had no luck folding it so I figured the tool might help.
