New Punch & Die Set
Posted by benzdoc on Saturday, February 4, 2012 8:56 AM

Hi All,

I wanted to tell you about a new product I found recently. First off, I've got no financial or otherwise connection to the vendor - other than appreciating a fellow modeler who has produced some really useful tools. And given that Chad is running a truly cottage industry company, I feel compelled to give him some props.

The company is CB Model Products run by Chad Bowser, who brought us the ever so useful Aircraft Wheel Sander. I could see the value and bought it right away, and after using it on my Fw 190, I'm so grateful to have it! Instead of reviewing it myself, I think that Floyd Werner did a better job here.

However, CB sent me an email announcing a new punch & die set which I ordered, and have just tried out. It's very nice! Here are some pics from the announcement email:

And here's one I took to show the nice chamfering on the plastic guide:

It's kind of hard to see, but the point is that the punch goes into the guide really nicely. And the guide is easy to take off - a shortcoming of the Waldron punch set I already have.

You can really tell that Chad payed a lot of attention to actually using the set. And for the money, I think it's a great addition to any modeler's tool set.

You can find his stuff with even the slightest of searching, so I'll leave that up to you. However, I highly recommend that you try this stuff out.

Best regards,

Mike

Do they have a website?

I don't think he does. However, if you email him at the address in the wheel sander review I linked to above, he'll write you back pretty quickly.

Take care,

Mike

Chad Bowser

I'm coming out with a punch and die set after Xmas if you're interested. It will include 12 punches from .040" to .151" in approximately .010" increments. It will handle scratchbuilding and instrument panels in 1/48 scale very well, but is probably too small for wheel masks. You can see some of my other products on here if you search for "CB Model Products". If you're interested or have any questions you can contact me at cbmodelproducts@hotmail.com. The price will be $45 USD.
