USN Haze Grey by Tamiya.
Posted by USMCbulldog on Sunday, April 22, 2012 6:42 PM

I am in the process of building a replica of the USS New Jersey. It is a Tamiya model, and the hull requires Haze Grey TS-32 spray paint.  I am having a serious problem trying to obtain this product.  It seems as though Europe has plenty in stock, but due to postal regulations will not ship aerosol paint.  I have tried all over the internet to get this product, but every site says it is out of stock.  HELP.

Don't sweat it.  For one thing, the Tamiya suggested colors are THEIR colors so they want you to buy one of those.  Tamiya Haze Grey may or may not be the actual color of the New Jersey, so it's not all that critical to use the precise Tamiya color.  I just finished the model you are building, and to tell the truth, the grey color of the plastic was close enough to Haze Grey that I decided not to spray those surfaces at all except when I needed to cover up a seam or something (like on the funnels).  The plastic has a glossy finish, of course, so when I had everything assembled I oversprayed it all with flat clear (Gunze).  Turned out just fine, and I would challenge anyone to look at this model and tell for sure whether it's Haze Grey or not.

I've ordered most of my Tamiya paints--- including the rattle cans with TS-32--- from the local Hobbytown USA store.  Haven't noticed a problem getting the rattle cans, but until recently the regular acrylics have been hard to come by.

I have the same model although mine is on the backburner but I started spraying in the Haze Grey you speak of but to my eye it is way too blue compared to the images I see on the net. I'm thinking of using Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey as it looks closer to me. Are aerosol sprays the only option you are looking for?

The specification for modern USN Haze Gray is 26270.    Testors ModelMaster Neutral Gray is 36270 - the difference is flat vs satin finish.

Other model paint producers also indicate their Fed-Std numbers on their paints,  but may call them something else.

USN WWII Haze Gray is very much different from the modern color.   The USN WWII colors were based on a purple/blue system and Haze Gray from that period had a definite lavender tint to it.    Your better bet for WWII colors is the ColourCoat line of paints from White Ensign Models in the UK

I am in the same page as you are. I am building the USS Enterprise CVN-65. I have served on this ship or 8 years and now I'm going to build her. I am looking for spray paint similar to the Haze Gray for the body of the ship and also Dark Deck Gray for the flight deck. But I need some dark deck spary paint that will look similar to the non skid on the flight deck any suggestions.

I disagree the color differences between US Haze Grey and Neutral Grey is due to the sheen of flat vs. satin.

I would get Mission Model #MMP114 Neutral Haze Grey US Navy (WWII/Post War) This would be the best color you’re looking for.

Scalehobbyist has them.
