CA Bottles....ARG!!!!
Posted by Bones-coa on Friday, February 13, 2004 7:38 PM
Would you guys like to see what really chaps my hind quarter?

That's right. The top of the bottle seized to the top and broke off! Now what am I supposed to do with a bottle of CA that's 95% full? Why can't companies make bottles out of something that...oh, I don't know...doesn't stick to CA!!??

ROFLMAO! I feel your pain. Been there several times myself. I just plugged the hole with a syringe and used the needle as a dipper to apply the glue. When you hear the pop of the tip breaking, just makes choice words come to mind doesn't it.

I feel your pain Dana and have done it many times myself.

That is why I always wipe the top of the bottle opening off after using it so that the cap can't glue the top to itself. Wink [;)]

Zap does!

Their bottles are made from a nylon type product that CA won't bond.

I too wipe the top of the bottle before putting the cap back on. Just be careful not to glue the papertowel to your fingers. Big Smile [:D]

I never even keep a cap on. I have never seen the glue harden in there!

They sell replacement tips for most CA's , but the syringe trick is by far the best way to go .

I got a pen style glue dispensery thing.. Not quite how to describe it but the glue is in a pen style applicator with a pair of buttons either side that release the glue. It hasn't clogged up or glued shut on me yet, but it was a bit pricier than the regular stick-on cap version.

Bones, I've been there too. (Just a couple of months ago, in fact!)Angry [:(!]

And Strike Eagle: unfortunately it was a bottle of Zap-A-Gap, too - the only brand I use.Disapprove [V]

The only good thing was that the bottle was only a third full. Dead [xx(]

I've had that happen to me many a time (I use Zap-A-Gap) I now keep the bottle hidden away in the refridgerator. It's easy to get the cap off when the bottle is cold.

Been there and hated it.
I also just leave the cap off. Never had it dry up on me (running on 8 months with that bottle) either. When the tip gets clogged, I just shove a dental tool down to clear it.

I've never had THAT exact experience, but I have had bottles of Zap-a-Gap clog at the tip so bad that I've had to cut away at the tip to get to a non-clogged part.

But lately I've used the really small bottles they sell - that way, I find I use it up before too much builds up on the tip to clog it or break it. And even if it does, I'm only loosing a small amount trapped in the bottle :)

Dana,

I feel your pain. I use the same brand of CA glue and have had this happen once. Now to avoid the cap becoming glued to the bottle, I never let the glue touch the cap. Instead, when I need some, I remove the cap and then take some glue directly out of the bottle with a 1 mL disposable plastic pipette (like an eyedropper - from the LHS) and drop it into a puddle in a tray made from scrap plastic or kitchen foil. I then just apply it from the puddle (toothpick, mechanical pencil, or if you can get them, really fine bore disposable pipettes are the best). This way the glue in the bottle never touches the cap so it can't seize.

You can get the plastic pipettes at the LHS, but they are pricey (I get mine from work for free!). Because the bore on the pipette is relatively large, though, you can just shake out any residual CA and re-use it - it won't get plugged. I actually keep mine taped to the side of the CA bottle for when I need some.

Hope this helps.

I feel your pain, as at this very moment, I have two of those EXACT bottles sitting around with a broken tip, and am working off a third.
I think we should probably take the above noted advice and switch brands.

Get the same glue, but use smaller containers of it. That way, by the time the tip has eroded way down, you are already done with the bottle.

Also, I tend to pour the glue onto a metal surface and use the pointy end of a wooden shishcabob stick to apply the glue.
