Large Paint Rack Help
Posted by capnluki on Saturday, July 27, 2013 6:23 PM

I have a mix of Tamiya 10ml and MM 1/2oz bottles.  Something like 100 of them.  I have wall space, but no more room on my bench.  Need recommendations on how to go about storing them.  Right now, they are in a keyboard drawer on my bench.  The problem with this is, I have to clear my bench to open the drawer.  I don't think I want to build a rack.  So, anything premade is great.  TIA

I think you could use a variation of this idea,,,,,,each area at the bottom holds 48 paints, they are drilled and screwed into that angled wooden frame that I made,,,,,just drill the plastic cases, and anchor them to the wall with a pair of those toggle anchors

you can get modular units in the cheap department stores' fishing section

hope this provides some food for thought

ha, Glenn

It drives Anne to distraction when I bring home or open a mail order box of new paints.

Every bottle there is a different color or paint company, and each has a replacement cap, 2 Hematite beads, a paint card for the binder and the nearest FS number on the cap or the little flags I made for the Vallejo group.

Second bottles of any color are in another plastic keeper,,,,,,but, this way, I can reach right for any color that I have, instantly, without pawing through boxes of brands, etc. I can also tell that I might need to access some color matching site when I "need" a color and there isn't one in between the FS approximates that I have already.

(I know, I know,,,,,,,and yes you are right, it might be a bit excessive,,,,,,,,but, all of my stuff is sorted out and filed in order, kits, decals, books, instructions, paints, weapons sets, etc,,,,,and I can pick it out for a project in a matter of minutes)

Check big box stores and cabinetmaking supply houses for spice racks. There's plenty to choose from with prices from cheap to ridiculous.

Walmart sells a plastic shelf/rack/whatever designed for the kitchen.

It pulls out into three stepped  tiers. Several of these on a wall mounted shelf might work for you.

Someone built one and showed it online once,,,,I think it was on Zone Five, but, I am not positive.

He took a few of those wooden utensil drawer separators, turned them sideways, screwed them to each other, and mounted the resulting "tiny shelf unit" up on the wall with metal angle brackets and those toggle style wall mount bolts.

Those might total up to be a cheaper method than my plastic deal,,,,,,and if you have wood accents and furniture, the wooden deal might look better on your wall. (the wooden deal would be more modular, also, going from 4x4 sets to 6x4, 4x6 or even 6x6 might be possible if you get more paints to hang up there someday)

I'm considering building slide out shelves, between my workbench and mill&lathe bench.  They would be 13.5"x14".  This would allow me to look down, at my paint selection.  I would just lose a little kit storage room.
