Weld on #3 Glue
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 22, 2004 3:05 PM
Im getting back into the hobby after about 20 years. I always used Weldon #3 from Archers Hobby World, (Archers was a big advertiser in Scale Modeler back then. Does anyone know if Archers is still in business? Or if there is another mail order source for Weldon 3 glue??

Joe,

As far as I know, it is no longer available under that brand name, at least in hobby in hobby shops. However, if you have a plastics distributor or supplier near you (plexiglass, lucite etc), check with them and see if they can get you a product named Pleximent (Methylene Chloride). It's the commercial name for Weld-On #3. Unfortunatly the smallest amount you can purchase is probably a quart. My dealer used to supply it in quarts for 4.95 a quart (the last time I bought some was 3 years ago). Was checking a couple of weeks ago and was informed he would only supply it in gallons now ($26.95 a gal). I figure with care that's a ten year supply.

And by the way, welcome back to the hobby and to the forum

Why not use Tenax-7R instead? It's excellent.

When Archer's introduced Weldon 3 it was so much better than any other produt available, I couldnt imagine using anything else. But acknowledged that was 25 years ago, Im going to order Tenax this week.

Anyone know if Bob Archer is still in business????

I love the Weld -on 3 that I use. Its made by a company called IPS corporation here in SoCal. The best thing is I get all I want for free!!! It comes in pint cans that normally sell for around $5. My concrete subcontractor does work for them and supplies me. He also gets our plumber all the PVC glue he can sniff, I mean use. Big Smile [:D]

If you know anyone in the glass bussiness they could get you some thru C.R. Lawarnce, they also carry plexi glass polish that's pretty good. Another glass source is Somer and Sommaca. Hope this helps some. Also am coming back to the hobby after 20 years myself. By the by what ever happened to Poste Militare 54mm models.
