Tamiya tape. As necessary as glue.

I love the tamiya tape, but it is not available in very narrow widths.  So I also keep some Testors 1/16 tape.  Not as good as the Tamiya, but saves cutting.

Another vote for Tamiya. If you don't mind cutting thinner strips, Frog tape is also great for acrylic paints.

Yep. I'll reiterate what most everyone else has said. Tamiya's tape is what I would go with. I haven't had to mask anything in a while but if I was allowed only one brand of tape on my workbench I would choose Tamiya every time.

I use Tamiya tape, and seal the edges with Future applied with a small brush to prevent paint seeping underneath.  Works great!

I agree.

I believe the narrowest Tamiya makes is 6mm. Sure you can cut it but that requires additional handling which does remove some of the adhesive which defeats the purpose of using it.

Yep, that is why I keep the Testors 1/16 stuff on hand.

Tamiya tape works well and its already precut in narrow sizes for easy masking.  If you can't find it I recommend 3M Masking Tape for Delicate Surfaces (Dark Blue Color).  Its pretty cheap ~$4 and easy to find and 1 roll will last for a long time.

I use the yellow frog tape that I got at Wal-mart.  it looks and feels just like the Tamiya tape  and I use it for taping my canopies and almost everything else.  Now I only use the Tamiya tape for very special area's

I have problems with Tamiya tape sticking. I have washed the plastic, used Plastic Prep, burnished the tape down, but still comes up. Any tricks to using the tape?

Are you using it directly on the plastic, or over primer and paint?

I am a little late for the "thin tape" portion of this discussion, but, in addition to Tamiya tape, and Post It tape and notes, I use Line O Tape

www.megahobby.com/search.aspx

it comes in sizes down to 1/64 inch (1/64, 1/32, 1/16, etc), so there is no need to slice slivers of Tamiya if you don't want to

if it seems to be too high-tack for your use, touch it to your forehead to make it less tacky

Someone reported that it is OOP, so this might be the last place to be able to get it, I am not sure of that

Thanks for the heads up.  I didn't know they carried such thin sizes.

At the local hobby shop I found some tape RC people use for pin striping their cars. I've used it without any problems. I usually remove some of the tackiness but the times I've forgotten to I didn't have any problems.

Take a look at Shurtape Razoredge. It looks and works just like Tamiya tape and is a bit cheaper.

I am sorry Don for such a late response. I typically use is over plastic but I have had the same problem over paint.
