Rivets, or a lack thereof....
Posted by Jester75 on Sunday, December 29, 2013 8:25 PM

Currently building Cyber-hobby's very nice 1/32 109 E4. As nice as it is though, it completely lacks any rivets. In this scale, I definitely think that it should have them. I am looking for a riveting tool for a riveting rookie. I have never attempted it before but it doesnt seem that complicated. So, what do you guys suggest??

RB Productions rivet wheel. Real easy to use, just chuck it in your exacto handle. Very nice effect, no need to push too hard. Easy to manuver and to see where you are going, unlike the equivalent from Trumpeter. It comes with different spaced wheels. The only downside is its not that quick to change wheels, as you need a screwdriver and a plier/small wrench. I used it on my Tony I just posted.

Are we talking flush rivets, non-flush rivets, or both here?

I find flush rivets on painted aircraft do not generally show very much.  So I generally don't worry about it.

On bare aluminum finish, I sometimes make them by applying them with a different color/shade of aluminum by daubing it on with a sharp toothpick end.

For non-flush rivets, one can daub on tiny spots of white glue (again with edge of sharp toothpick or a small piece of wire.  Do this over the primer before finished painting. I sometimes mark a rule, a regular pattern, on the edge of a piece of card stock to get the regular spacing.  When painted these drops will look like rivet heads.  A lot of work though.
