Depends on the situation.  What airbrush do you have on it- is the airbrush adjusted to a reasonable flow rate?  Airbrush compressors are not designed for very large flow rates.  Neither are some small regulators, so it could be either.

I suggest you ask this in the painting and airbrushing forum just below this one.  Lots of discussion there on very similar problems.

which is 50 psi, i bought a regulator for it, installed it and it shows pressure but it bleeds down and dosent maintain a constant pressure is it the compressor or im not sure, any ideas?
