Hot Melt Glue

To attach the silk flowers to the fancy door wreath you are working on

I bought a kit at a yard sale that the previous owner used hot glue to try to build. At least everything came back apart so I could start over. I don't see a use for it myself.

I don't believe it is useful for modeling applications.

It's very useful for tacking things down temporarily .I use it to tack figures down to a piece of dowel rod for example. .for painting. Also good for gluing pieces  of styrofoam  together for a diorama base

I make a lot of jigs and fixtures when building a kit.  For instance, a jig for holding upper wing in place on a biplane kit.  I make a lot of them from particle board.  Hot melt glue is a quick and cheap way to fasten jig parts together.  Enough CA to hold some of the jigs together uses a lot of expensive glue!

Temporarily gluing a figure for painting sounds like a great use of hot melt glue.

Yeah,works great. And the figure pops off fairly easily

Hot glue definitely does have its uses.

I use hot glue all the time to hold down wiring on a lighted model. This keeps it routed, organized, and out of the way. If it pops loose after the model is sealed its not anything to worry about.

I've also used it to reinforce joints/seams, like the pie shaped sections on the huge Jupiter 2 model. Time will tell if this helps.

Now, I DO NOT use it say to glue together two halves of a hull or fuselage.

Okay are you talking about actual hot glue? If so it really has no use for modeling if you intend for the pieces to stay together for any long period of time. Unless you are talking about plastic "hot" glue such as the one Gamesworkshop sells. Its a type of plastic super glue persay that heats up the two pieces being joined and actually melts the plastic so the pieces fuse into one piece. I love using that glue for joining fuselage halves together as it pretty much fills any gaps and makes it really easy to hide seams. I prefer it to regular superglue.
