PE Tool Purchase
Posted by Radial9 on Sunday, April 19, 2015 8:26 AM
I'm about to enter the small world of PE. I'm starting out with a P51D Eduard interior/exterior set. I did some searching and just read the flat nose plier post. Question: What did you find the most useful to get started? Buy a small Trumpeter bending vice, a Tamiya PE plier or a standard cheap set of flat nose pliers? Just wish to know what folks initially bought and how they felt about that first purchase after doing a few PE builds. Thanks! Bob

I use 4 different style of pliers as well as a couple of different style tweezers for bending and shaping. I have regular needle nose, long thin needle nose, round tipped, and blade tipped. Make sure the ones you buy are not knurled inside the tip as these will leave marks on the PE. The tweezers have various width on the tips. For long bends I just use 2 steel 6" rulers.

For just getting started, a pair of small screwdrivers suffices, with maybe small nose pliers too.  I'd advise building several models with PE before spending muney on any expensive PE bending units.  I built one similar to those being sold, and find I don't use it much- I keep getting better with the screwdrivers (conventional, not phillips) and pliers.
