Metal Foil a la Wine Bottle?
Posted by Chrisk-k on Sunday, April 26, 2015 4:41 PM

Where can I buy a metal foil similar to the one used for a wine bottle cap?  I find it very useful to build little metal parts.  I shouldn't buy wine to get that foil although I enjoy wine.

Nath he means the thick soft bendable stuff. Yes, destroying your liver is your best option, and the better the wine the better the foil. It's soft aluminum. Why not drop by your friendly neighborhood husband hideout and talk the keep into giving you some. They probably open a dozen bottles a night.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Might this be similar to a wine bottle metal foil?  I've got to do some research on this.

Roof flashing aluminum is a good thickness and quite inexpensive.  A roll will last a lifetime.  Buy the kind without adhesive, not the self-adhesive kind.

Try looking at tooling foil. It's available in several gauges and metals. I have a roll of it I got from an art supply place (might have been *** Blick, but I can't recall). It's much heavier than heavy duty aluminum foil, stiff yet malleable, plus you can cut it with scissors or an xActo.

Verlinden and Historex also carry "lead foil", which was the material Shep Paine was always mentioning in his books as coming off wine bottles. Seems sort of odd in this day and age to think about consumable products coming packaged in lead, but there you go...

Chris, if you haven't found anything to use let me know and I can send you some. I grabbed one at a party a couple of years ago and someone asked why I wanted it. I told him and the next time I saw him he handed me a bag with a 100 lifetimes supply.

Thanks, Howard. I've already bought a roll of craft aluminum foil, which will last more than a lifetime.
