Inkjet or Laser
Posted by Steve54 on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 6:12 PM

New to creating decals. Would appreciate any and all thoughts on printers, specifically ink jet or laser jet.

Thank You

Inkjet printers are cheaper, have higher resolution than most lasers, and they seem to have more colors.  Neither can print white, nor work very well on light colors using clear decal stock.

Downside of inkjet is that various mfgs use inks that vary in their solubility to clearcoats.  I would advise checking vendor's return policy, print a test sheet as soon as you get it, and return it if decals dissolve in clearcoat.

Despite some claims, laser decals DO need a clearcoat, but they do seem more resistant to clearcoats.
