Putty Thinning Question

Hi,
I know you can thin putties with a hobby grade lacquer thinner or in some cases acetone. But what I am wondering is there a retarder that could be used for lacquer based putties? I am just asking to see if perhaps the retarder would give it some auto leveling properties similar to Mr. Hobby's Mr. Surfacer.
