Out of Control Glue
Posted by glock232 on Friday, April 2, 2004 12:20 AM
Hi gang!
I usually work with 1/35th scale armor pieces but i just picked up my first 1/72 cobra attack helicopter kit to put together for my friend who is obsesed with the chopper. I have a hard enough time keeping the glue in check when i work with the larger stuff, but i was wondering if anyone had any tips on doing "micro" gluing for the 1/72 kit. I use the ZAP brand glue its cyanoacrolyte (spelling...) so im sure you all know the consistancy of it. I have tips that you put on the tip of the bottle where you cut a piece off to expose the hole, but no matter what i do i cant get the hole small enough to only do fine lines of glue. I have also used the testor's glue in the black container with the metal tip attached to it.. same problem..

any ideas?!

Thanks
Joe

Put a little of the Zap in a bottle cap and apply it with a sharpened toothpick. Wink [;)]

Just put a drop or two, it lasts for quite a while before it sets up as CA glues cure by moisture and just sitting in a bottle cap or any other container in the open doesn't matter that much. I would say you could use it for probably 1/2 hr to an hour before it thickens. At least that is how long the regular thin Zap lasts for me.

I made a CA applicator from a 3 inch piece of 15 thousands dia. piano wire stuck into a short handle made from a dowel. For a little bit more glue at one time, grind half the eyelet off of a sewing needle, forming a small "U" on the end, attach the pointed end to a dowel.

I like the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. I think there is another post about this. The brush is so small can you can control how much cement is loaded into the tip that i rarely have any problems with cement running. All I build is 1/72
