New AK weathering pencils.

You don't need a "new" product if you can do it old school.

Oh, I forgot to mention.
They have to be watercolor pencils.
Prisma and pastel pencils won't work this way.

Prismacolor does actually make a line of watercolor pencils in 12, 24, and 36 packs. The cheap colored pencils I have are not, and definately don't work, but I tried them anyway. Thanks for the info I think I'll look into using the prismacolors if my HL carries the watercolor sets.

I think the main attraction for me is that a pencil gives you much more control than a brush - at least for me. But I was able to purchase a box of 72 water color pencil for about $30 from amazon. This new set seems kinda spendy.

 

I spose if they are water soluble that's all that matters. THat seemed to be what they were focusing on plus I'm guessing the colors included are the choices most people would be drawn to. I've fooled around looking on Amazon and reviewers are pretty fussy as to the softness of the lead which can vary.

The question is. How do I find ways to weather a model that don't include overly strong stinky materials to do so? This offers a solution to those of us that cannot tolerate the strong odors that some modelling materials emit, so yes it is a solution, but not without a question. I personally have been using pastels, watercolors, and colored pencils since I started back in this hobby to avoid those smells. I just never knew about watercolor pencils until I saw this and it looks very intriguing for making watercolors even easier to work with on a model.
