I got my pin vise today and had a slight problem. All but one drill bit was out of the case and very similar in size. 10 are x.0 and 10 are x.5 so there are 10 different sizes of drill bits. The bigger ones arent so bad but the smaller ones are nearly impossible to differentiate which are which. Any one ever have this problem??

 

 

 

Harbor Freight has 6" dial calipers available at bargain prices frequently.  At the prices they charge, every modeler should have one.  They work great!

This happened to me as well, at the time I was able to just eyeball them from biggest to smallest. Pattern recognition just kinda told me if one looked out of place and I moved it until it looked "right." If your eyes are good enough or you have a magnifying glass, are there any sizes engraved on the bits? Not sure they'd bother with ones that small but /shrug

Pin vice all by hand is how I did the falcon, just work in small sections it takes awhile but the results will be better in the end.

 

 

 

 

Would love to see some pictures of it if you have it completed

Absolutely. I use a micrometer or a Starrett dial caliper (both 45 yrs old) to measure the drill bits when they get mixed up.

There are lots of cheap ones out there, there is no need to have excellent measuring devices in our hobby, IMO.

I second Goldhammer's advice to use a pin vise.

No help on the guide, but how about a piece of scrap board as a backer to keep out of the table.

Might suggest a pin vise for drilling smaller holes for wires by hand rather than the Dremel. Unless you have a speed controller on it, most will turn at 5000 rpm minimum.  Can melt plastic in a hurry.
