Tools , Yes, but how did you come up with that ?

Hi Ya'll ;

I know I just posted yesterday about an oft overlooked tool available to most of us. Now, that said, look around you .Where's that next tool? Shoot , it might be as near as your Bird in a cage ( or on a shoulder ) or the Dog,Cat or other pet.

Maybe, just maybe it's hiding in plain sight like those free credit card shaped items in cardboard and plastic we get in advertisments. When I mentioned the Bird. Shading in a semi-dry-brushed manner can be accomplished with a bird feather! Especially a Duck Feather !

See , don't laugh . I found a neat saw when I was a very young lad. Fine enough for hobby work .What was it? A lower jaw side from a dead baby Barracuda that had decomposed on the beach down to bleached bones. Made a great saw for Balsa!

I needed a clamp once for an airplane wing on a large model. A split piece of dried bamboo in my yard got the duty. Worked great too! Think about it a moment .If you don't have money for something or can't find it in your local hardware department why get flustered? Mother nature provides plenty to use .We just lost the ability to see those tools right before our eyes .

Oh, I know , the old man has gone around the bend. Not so .I just returned to basics after a while of going on spending sprees finding tools .Then finding they didn't do as well as I liked . There are many things around us that will suffice for the tool we need.We just have to be able to see it.

Did you know that the quills dropped by a Porcupine can be used as small drill bits when you take the quill and slightly flatten one side of the tip? Yup, just slide it gently on a piece of concrete or sandpaper and ,there you have it .

Silly ,isn't it? Returning to these barbaric means of doing things . Sure beats hauling a portable workshop around when you are camping doesn't it ? Try it. You might like the simplicity of it .

K9 unit here in OR that got about 200 of them all around his mouth.....about two weeks later was in the same area and evidently attempted to arrest the perp, and got another dozen or so for his trouble.  Perp still on the loose evading capture.

Was on KPTV news.  Probably still in their archives online.

This is one of my favorite tools. My home made paint shaker. I have been using this for months and I have never had a mishap. I shake the bottle inside a box. Sometimes the bottle flyes off the shaker, but so far I have had no broken bottles or paint leaks.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Roadkill gives the best quills.  I stop all the time and pick them up.  Great for scribing too.

An old trick. So you haven’t had and broken bottles or leaks, eh? Just wait.... it’ll happen when you least expect it. Think missile projectile once slipped through its grasp.

I personally won’t even try this method no matter how cool it looks.

Sometimes the old tricks are the best tricks. I shake the paint in a cardboard box. In the event that a bottle gets loose, it will hit the soft cardboard and will not break. I have had a few bottle get loose. They fall harnelessly into the box.

Aha !

Now here's a trick with this .You Secure two lids, slightly larger than the paint bottle on the clamp with epoxy. It works better and no liquid and glass missiles! The lids hold the bottle in place !

I don't think shaking paint is so great. It's important to stir it though.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

That's a good idea. I'll look into that.
