Tamiya P/E bending pliers? Anyone have these?

Does anyone have the Tamiya photo etch bending pliers?   They have a long and short pair.

I've worked with photo etch for a long time and  don't particularly enjoy it.  I'm going to be doing some modern 1/35 armor that has quite a bit of it.

I'm wondering if these would help eliminate some of the headaches involved.

Thanks for any insight on these pliers.

I think it's the longer pair I have.  Anyhow, I find them handy for holding smal bits of PE, as well as folding a narrow piece.

For accurate folds,  particularly anything longer than a few mm, I still prefer a purpose built gadget like The Bug bending tool.  Just find the Tamiya pliers don't have a strong grip, it seems to decrease the longer the PE piece is.

regards,

Jack

I've had mine for a number of years and have found them to be right handy for working on PE for my aircraft builds. Good for quick simple folds. I recommend them.

Now, I've just purchased "The Bug" PE bender to accomodate more complicated bending. I'm getting into some ship building and that tool will be more handy for the PE bending required.

I'd like to second that.

On the bending jigs (the Bug and such), I think for bigger and more complex bends I'd agree with Joe and Jack. That said, I haven't touched mine for years, favoring a straight edge razor blade and 6" machinists scale for a straightedge.

However, my PE work has been fairly basic and not involving some of the complex PE found in ships and stuff, so no way I'm throwing stones at the bending jigs.

My go to tools for PE are my tamiya PE diamond file, Tamiya PE pliers, the aforementioned razor blade and straightedge scale and glass cover from an old halogen work light for use as a work surface.
