A model-only compressor or a household compressor whose primary task may be modeling?

I use a 1 gallon pancake compressor which I bought for about 40 bucks (IIRC).  Came with a nail gun which I've used on projects around the house.  Just filled the tires on the wife's car instead of paying $1.75 per minute at the corner store. 

Yes it is noisy, but only until the tank fills.  

Small (cheap) airbrush compressors dont keep good/smooth pressure.  They do tend to run hot,  must run for all of paint session.  I had one and have been happy since I moved on

A small pancake compressor can be had from Harbor Freight for 55 bucks.  I use a small Craftsman compressor that my girlfriend gave me.  Fits right under my work table.  Only drawback is the noise when it kicks on, but is only runs for a minute while the tank recharges.

I started with a cheap Point Zero airbrush that came with a small air comp. The airbrushes, it came with three, are just spares now but the compressor just keeps on chugging and is quiet as well. Nothing wrong at all with starting with a combo set to get you started with airbrushing. You can always upgrade to a better brush later. Good luck

I looked at the point zero they have many kinds is your the little black square one or the little bigger one.

I also have a craftsman 6gal one but too noisey

In hind sight, I would have been better off saving up and buying a decent AB and compressor when I started out. My first AB was a cheap unit connected to comprssed air cans, then a super crappy compressor and chinese AB.

I know use IWATA AB's and a quality compressor and my skill in using an AB  have only gotten better since I invested in this quality equipment.

I also use a small, very quiet Iwata.  It is tankless and does pulsate, but with a high frequency.  I was concerned when I first started using it, but find it does not affect my paint finish.

I'm a Badger guy and highly recommend ANY of them. They will last you a lifetime and are not expensive.

If you are really tight on $ then I suggest to get yourself a Neo from Hobby Lobby for about $45 with a 40% coupon. I have one I bought a few years back and is a fantastic air brush. For a compressor I have a Campbell Housefeld 6 gallon one that I got at Walmart many years ago. It's set up with a water trap and regulator that I picked up at Harbor Freight for under $10. Besides air brushing I use it for many things like inflating tires, kid's toys, running air tools and compressed air cleaning.

Oh man that sucks big time. Did you ask them why? I wonder if they where marked as reduced then it voids out the coupon.

Tickmagnets link is the same one (Harbor Freight Variant)I upgraded to from the initial little Amazon Brick that came with my first airbrush.  Worked great for about 6 months till it died.  Made the mistake of putting it on a lower shelf of my bench in a corner where airflow wasnt not all that good.  The thing overheated and croaked. Had I kept it on the table where my fan would have given it some decent airflow, I think it would still be going.  Bought a Harbor Freight Fortress 1 Gal Ultra Quiet jobber.  Left it on the bench this time :). Design is interesting where the drain valve is NOT the lowest portion of the tank, so you have to deal with that as you drain the fluids, but it works.  1 gal isnt that much volume though.  It does live up to teh quiet name.
