Important Safety Tip.
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Sunday, August 30, 2020 11:40 AM

Hi Ya';ll ;

      I just mentioned this on the Paper Model thread as a tip. I thought everyone should be reminded if they know and Warned if they didn't know. As we all know there a plethora of Hobby Tools out there. One we all need is Cutting tools. Most use X-Acto.

      There other brands out there such as Atlas and X-Cel. The Atlas tools I had, I dumped after a while. Why? Plastic Collets that break off at the handle end of the tool leaving you with a stuck Collet stump and no way to hold your blades.! X-Cel isn't bad for the price but I have to warn those of you that use a lot of blades especially number 11 types.

    X-Cel's blades are thinner. With heavy pressure they WILL twist and possibly give You a very crooked line or snap and leave a small piece of sharp metal where you don't want it on your body. This product is specific to Hobby Lobby, but, it is showing up at other purveyors too. Prices help a little, Just be Careful Please?

     The other thing about X-Cel # 11, blades.They do NOT come to a tiny sharp tip like X-Acto. Parents, don't let this mislead you. This does NOT make them safer!

I use a scalpel myself seems everytime I tried a cutter with a number 11 blade they would bend or come loose. Haven't had that issue with the scalpel.

Hi;

 I would still be using a scalpel except. Somehow the handle BROKE leaving me with a very destroyed thumb.I stopped using them and went back to X-Acto products. Oh! by the way, when this happened I was cutting.010 sheet plastic for a boat hull.
