Gluing anything to polyethylene is a challenge.  Hot glue will hold but it is still weak  A mechanical connection is best.  There are some vendors that specialize in small screws and fasteners.  Pins and tacks will also work.  Head on other side of the poly part, shaft glued into resin part.

Plain super glue? I'll give it a shot, hopefully that will do the trick.. I'd just hate to find out it doesn't after I buy everything I need

Cyanoacrylate (CA or Supreglue) will bond most hobby resins to polystyrene and ABS plastics.  Polyethylene (ie milk jug plastic) is a different beast and handles differentl.  Doesnt take CA due to its flexibility

There used to be a website titled this to that which gave guidance on cements to adhere different materials

Gluing milliput to polyethylene?

I wanted to start casting parts for kit bashing and custom work, and the company I was going to order casting supplies from recommended milliput epoxy for small parts.

But I can't seem to find any information about bonding epoxy to polystyrene or polyethylene.

Does anyone have any guidance?

Apologies if this isn't in the correct sub-forum.
