Tweezers-Or How hard to squeeze;

Even my pixnor tweezers are having a hard time with the PE on my USS Langley model.

The PE sheets are only 6 mil!  The inside of the tips must be absolutely clean and parallel, or they will not hold small pieces.  I have to clean them frequently.  I take bigger gobs off with a needle file, and then hold a folded piece of 400 grit sandpaper between tips, squeeze with jut the right pressure so the tips stay parallel, and move the paper around.  Time consuming, but no one ever said working with PE was a rapid job

      I do know this though. With ANY tweezers. The spring is the thing! That'll get you everytime

I know this is an old thread but I've had too numerous times of fiddley bits parts go flying off to God knows where of the vast "black hole" nothingness when I know I wasn't squeezing the tweezers hard. Somehow they always manage to escape the grips of the tweezers no matter how careful you are. LOL! 

Yeah, I do believe it is indeed a family Member.

      I am glad too. So was about half the model Rail-Roaders that showed up.They had very little left and had even sold out of some items! The sales-Person that gifted me the tweezers was impressed by, both the tip, and the cold grind method. I did two right there for her. She still refused payment for the pair she gave me to try!

 

Sounds like whomever is carrying on the business is doing so with the grace of the original owner.

I believe one of our online friends here said it is a family member or member(s) carrying on.

      Are they steel? If so do this. One small glass container of Lacquer thinner. One baby tooth brush. Let soak in the thinner for about twenty minutes. Take one drop of Dawn Dish soap and put it on the brush. Now run the water to get it as hot as yours gets. Place tweezers in the stream and brush away. They should come out as good as new. If not repeat till they are.

That is why I love the Pixnor tweezers.  They have a profile of an elongated diamond.  They are very ridgid in the direction 90 degrees to the squeeze direction. So it is hard to misalign tips.

Just orded a new set from Amazon to replace a few I use often that I had gotten a lot of glue and paint on.
