Well, I convinced the family to make a day trip to a couple of museums, nice lunch out, and oh, can we stop by the Hobbit on the way home? What a place! Reminds me of the dedicated hobby shops I remember as a kid. Wound up leaving with the new ICM O-2A Skymaster and an Academy P-39 in 1/72, plus stuff for the boy and even a few goodies for the missus. Thanks again for the recommendation, I've taped the card up on the side of my spray booth for reference and a reminder to make the occasional day trip.
Squadron used to carry a lot of aftermarket. And, in their paper flyers they often placed aftermarket stuff near the aircraft ads.
Hope the new management will carry a lot of aftermarket. And I loved those flyers. Otherwise you find out about new stuff only by word of mouth. I really urge the new managers to continue the flyers. Sure, it is more expensive but is a sure way to get a following and encourage purchases- I can't resist good sale prices when I know about them.
I do get online flyers from several hobby shops but they are not very extensive and seldom buy as a result of what they show. Mainly I go to their sites to order something I want.

gomeral Thanks, Disastermaster. I haven't heard of nor been to visit them. On the list, for sure! They're about 80-90 minutes away, but I occasionally have need to be down that way, so I'm going to have to find a way to remind myself!

Just to ditto Rocketman's post, I find it's easier to search by manufacturer, then filter by application if I'm looking for something in particular. One exception is when the item or items of interest aren't stocked by my go-to sites; then I'll just do a general Google using words that I think may turn up some results, sometimes coming at it a few different ways to make sure. Some products are only available from the manufacturer, and some are out of production so they become eBay searches.
The aftermarket is a big place...Happy hunting!
I find online hobby shops tend to have pretty poor search engines. I used to teach google searches at local library so I am not a newby on computer searches. Still I have failed to find items at some of these places, only to find out later that they have them. If you know the item brand and item number their engines are okay, but if you enter a generic description- good luck
There's a Hobby Town in Hickory NC,as good as any regular hobby shop I've been in,might be a little far from Apex, but Hickory is a cool town, even has an a good Aviation musurm.
Ebay is also a great source for those hard to find AM products
Scalehobbyist has a nice variety of stuff also
Got ya. I have 2 hobby shops about an hour from me. They carry a decent number of plastic kits and supplies. I don't see much of the things you posted about in the brick and mortar joints. I think you'll find Sprue Bros an excellent online place.
Thanks for the info, I've actually never been to Sprue Bros., but now that you mention it, I've heard of it. Need to go and browse for a while....
wpwar11 How far is Cary, NC? Looks like they have a shop called Hangar 18.

Sprue Brothers carry much of what your looking for. You can also go to Scalmates and enter the kit in their search engine. They will provide numerous aftermarket and other products for that specific kit. They will often include where to buy. For more obscure items I usually go to EBay.
Hi, all -
Perhaps I'm not looking correctly with the search function, but I can't seem to find this info in the forums already and I'm wondering what (web) stores people use for what I call, "specialty" products for modeling. Specifically in that group is things like canopy masks, PE sets, rigging, etc. such as items from Uschi van der Rosten, Eduard, etc. (I'm also open to other neat stuff!) There is not really a good (aircraft) modeling LHS near me that I know of, so I'm doing a lot of online searching, but I was hoping maybe for some direction from folks that have been using this stuff.
For the record, the LHS for me is mostly gaming and RC, and I do go there to pick up paints when I can, but Hobby Lobby is the largest carrier of plastic models and building supplies anywhere near me that I know of.
Oh, and if there's anyone in the RTP that knows of a LHS I'm missing, please let me know!
