My newspaper is always delivered in a large plastic bag- probably mylar. The film is very thin, about like plastic wrap. I have frequently used a plastic wrap as a way to cut back on the amount of masking tape I use.
I tape around the area I want to repaint with wide tape. Then I insert the rest of the model in the bag, and tape the opening of the bag to that tape outlining the repaint area.
I needed to repaint just the rear fenders of a car model without hurting the existing paint on frame and front fenders. Using a plastic bag is much easier than using plastic wrap- far fewer seams to tape.
