Promise Not to Laugh?

Aha !

We finally see one of the "Plank Bending" Tools out there. See, It is a very simple one. Now, when I bend those darned planks I do not use one of these. I use a tool made for bending something else! I use a "Tubing Bender".

It's made for bending Aluminium tubing and Brass Tubing as the name implies. I also do something most builders don't do.I steam my planks in a Pyrex casserole dish Before bending. Steaming works in the real world as well.

Why not use the tool made for planks? Well! It goes back to my childhood. I was apprenticed at the Boatworks close to home to help with my education. A Pre-College school I was attending required learning this a part of their curriculum. It was a college level Training School for Proffessional Boat-Builders BEFORE the days of Plastic boats and Rubber men.

I still use the one pictured as well. Hot water(very) and aluminium foil work great on Plastic strips as well, so my sailing boats of antiquity that are Plastic in total, get the same treatment as their wooden Counterparts. Works great too.

Well, the tool you are using is actually one of the best ones, when you use boiling water to bend wood, it will bend very quickly! Now, why I am not using this system? Well, I try to stay away from any chemicals, such as paint thinner ( that is why I do not use oil based paints ), that may be bad to my health and that can catch fire and/or blow up, in the case of boiling water, you need to heat it and now you have a open flame ( Unless you using one of the new induction ranges ) and you are dealing with water that can burn you real bad if you spill it by accident.

Since I tend to be somewhat hipper, I am afraid that I may burn myself with such a setup, the tool I am using is a bit safer ( You still have to remember not to touch the end of it when in use ) I could have the pliers that crimp the wood in order to make it work, I may try that one in the near future, will see
