Question-My son says I should use these Glue Tips with C.A.

Hi:

Anyway Mike said these work for him and I should use them. Since I started using "Gorilla" Brand C.A. I  have been displeased with the fact that I went backwards in application methods, to a toothpick or pointed end of a Bamboo skewer.

It Seems that no one makes a top that will fit The "Gorilla" bottle? I dunno, I just will keep using these antiquated methods I guess, till I find something. That's the one thing among many I liked about "Bob Smith's" product. You could buy extra bottle tips when you bought the glue. Now also on that score, the Zip-Kicker that I used on B.S. stuff works equally well on "Gorilla" C.A.

How well do they actually work and how easy is it to clean them? I do have some long skinny ones I use on tubes of Glue for regular plastic. Mostly I use a very fine pointed artists brush that has held up for almost twelve years so far!

TB, I've never used 'Gorilla' brand CA -- though I've heard great things about it, and mean to, one day. Yes

But...

...In a purely personal observation, I've experimented with a bunch of glue tips for CA over the years, and always found them more bother than help. (Maybe I'm just doing it wrong...wouldn't be the first time!)

I keep going back to my 'go-to,' which is about a 3" length of copper wire stuck in a half toothpick as a handle -- with a tiny fishhook curl at the tip of the wire. It lets me clearly measure (and see) how much glue I'm applying -- which is my traditional headache with CA adhesives -- and is micro-precise in application. If there's any buildup of hardened glue, a quick 'flash' with a Bic lighter and it's good as new.

All that being said -- I don't generally use CA for stuff like seam filling; in that circumstance, I can see that applicator tips might be useful, and my wire thingy pretty much pointless.

Just one fool's unsolicited opinion.... Propeller

The age-old tip clogging problem with CA is exactly why I was so over-the-moon when I took a shot on Gorilla and found out after using it that the tip clogging thing was no longer an issue because of their tip design.  I was just in a position where I was extremely frustrated with constantly having to throw away expensive, 1/4 used bottles of CA.  Saw Gorilla, which was significantly cheaper, and bought it thinking "Well, it will have a clogged tip or dry out long before I use all of it, but at least it's cheap."  The no-clog tip was just an amazing surprise...a HUGE bonus.

I had been using the toothpick method anyway on the hobby-specific brands because of the tip clogging issue.  Just wanted to avoid it altogether, so I would unscrew the cap and dab some onto a stack of PostIt notes with a toothpick, or use the Flex-I-File glue applicator I have.  Unscrewing the cap, of course, is an invitation to the apocalypse...worse than that of crossing the streams. Dead Gorilla has made it so I no longer have to do that part at least.  I just squeeze out a little drop of it onto my PostIt notes, and peel the note off and chuck it after I'm done applying CA.  Keeps me from unknowingly dragging a body part through it, and then getting said body part stuck to the next thing it touches. Cool
