Waldron Punch Tool
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 10:57 AM
Hi, I would like to inquire as to what difference of the Waldron Precision Punch Die Set and the Sub-miniature? I usually model WW2 1/72, 1/48 aircraft and 1/35 armor and cannot decide to get which one. Question [?]

Sigman,
The normal Punch and Die set has 6 punches, #6 (0.160"), #5 (0.120"), #4 (0.089"), #3 (0.081"), #2 (0.059"), and #1(0.039").
The Sub-miniature Punch and Die set has 10 punches, 0.063", 0.058", 0.053", 0.048", 0.043", 0.038", 0.033", 0.028", 0.023", 0.018".
They're expensive, but man, do they ever come in handy. Just treat them with care and they'll last a long time.

Cheers, LeeTree

indespensible.
get both: the small set for 1:72/48, the large set for 1:48/35/24.
take care of them and they will take care of you.

I own both sets of punches and love them. I've had my for about seven years now. My punches develop a light coat of rust on them from time to time. I polish them and they are good for a while. I use my sets frequently so i'm a bit puzzled why this happens. Does anyone else have this problem?

The oils from your skin (& moisture in the air) mixed with the air causes the oxidation resulting in rust. A very light coat of lubricating oil on the shafts (where you hold them) will help slow the process. Otherwise a few quick swipes with steel wool with take it off.
