I don't use the original "Blu-Tack" and haven't seen it for years, but I remember it well for the 1980's. Now I use a product called "Plasti-Tak" that I get at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 per package. With the exception of being white instead of blue, it looks, feels, and acts just like Blu-Tack did.

If you can't find "Blu-Tack", hope this helps.

[Edit - Blu-Tack was trademarked in Australia, is exported to the U.S., and is available from Artech (among other online sources). Here's a web site]

Chris,

I saw some at Walmart in the school supplies section and it was called Poster Putty I believe.
I found this at Office Depot's website and it is made by Elmer's and is called, "Tac 'N Stik."

They also carry their own brand called, "All Stick"

Chris,

I live in a small town (POP 3000 more or less - heck there might be 3500 if you include the whole county) and I can get Blue Tac or its equivilant at at least 4 different places at any given time (the local dime store, the stationary store, the lumber yard and the hardware store).

Check your local hardware or lumber yard for a DAP product named Fun Tac. It comes in a small bubble pack and runs about $1.79. Bought a couple of packs a month ago at the local hardware store (it's an ACE Hardware store). Hope this helps a little.
BTW - can anyone tell me where to find some Silly Putty???

Chris,

The instructions on the package of Fun Tak I have here in front of me says that if it should leave a stain to use Isopryl Alcohol to remove it. Having said that, I've never had much of a problem with staining (usually get more stains from the residue of decal glues and solvents)

FYI, when they mention 'May leave oily residue....', it means after a period of time has elapsed, you remember posters having an oily stain in the corners where they were stuck onto the wall?

We have Blu Tak here, (obviously), and it is excellent for soft camo lines.
If you really want to get trendy, they now make it in different colours!!!!!!!!

You can use red for green camo, and flouro orange for grey camo yadda yadda yadda!

I used an entire pack to mask off the 'Atlantik' camo on my 1/72 He177. That was one heavy aircraft by the time I'd finished!!!

It looked like it had been attacked by smurfsBig Smile [:D]

Chris if you can't find it in the school supply section. Seeing that schools at least here start soon.
I found mine in Walmart's Paint section. The produduct is specifically called Poster Putty and put out by a company called Duck.

Good luck on you Quest.

You can reuse it too Chris. I wonder if you could wipe it off after painting with some thinner or something without affecting it?

its so dirt cheap who cares!!LOL. i peeled it off and just balled it back up. mine is Elmer's Tak so i still may purchase some poster putty. Walmart carries poster putty here, but naturally they were out when i went! i hit up 2 more stores before finally ending my search at a local grocery store of all places!! i'm gonna remask my bird because i'm not satisfied with the color. i didn't use but a 1/4 of the pack to do my larger than most 1/48 scale birds. later.

Man, oh man........that stuff is an institution in Oz..........you can get the stuff ANYWHERE! But at least there seems to be lots of alternatives to be had in the northern hemisphere.
My youngest daughter steals all my Blu-Tak to play with.........such is life.
And remember what Tweety said - if you value your posters and don't want a permanent oily stain in the corners, place a 2" square piece of clear packing tape in the corners on the back of the poster, then stick the Blu-Tak to that...... otherwise you'll have a permanent reminder of where the stuff was.......I thrashed a 40 year old Qantas poster like that.

Cheers, LeeTree
