Bulk lead foil for groundwork, where to buy?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 11:13 PM
Hi all,I need to aquire a large amount of lead foil to do some tedious plant-life for a Vietnam diorama I will begin this winter...and NO, I dont think my liver can handle that much wine and champagneBig Smile [:D] Do any of the resident diorama Guru's here have a source where to buy such an item?
Thanks and Cheers! Shreck

Shreck

Over in the Techniques forum Tediam gave the following info: "I get mine at http://www.mcmaster.com/ Look up lead foil tape. Or Item #76315A61, or catalog page #3201."

Try using Pewter foil look in the Embossing section of Michaels or the like.

Thanks for the tips Y'allSmile [:)] As for why not a heavy grade of Aluminum foil...dont know really,as I've only used the waste lead foil from wine and such up until now.And it has always worked the charm!
The Diorama I am getting ready to start will be my most ambitious to date,a Vietnam diorama of an OH-6A "Loach" up close and personal to an NVA bunker with lots(and I mean LOTSBig Smile [:D] )of foliage/grass/etc.
hence the need for "bulk"foil! My best guesstimate is in the area of 3' square feet total of foil for a diorama base 14 1/2" X 14 1/2" square

Now I'm searching the 'net for native Vietnamese plant and grass species reference picsDead [xx(]......A very boring aspect of research
Will post pics when I get underway in the helicopters section of our forum! Thanks again! Shreck

You might check the radiology department of your local hospital. At one time I was able to get sheets of lead foil up to 12 x 16 but that was a long time ago.
