ok thx for replys, f-4phantom - can i get that masking tape from walmart right? all i have too do is find that 3M with that number on it and then i am good to go

There is 2 types of 3M blue painter's tape. The one I have never had a problem with is "made for delicate surfaces" #2080. It says that on the inside of the roll and it's outside texture is smoother than the other blue 3M tape.

Stick it to your T-shirt for a few minutes, that's what I do.

pingtang, u talking about the 3M Safe Release Masking Tape that is blue

Tamiya tape is great for chores like masking aitcraft canopies, but for masking over paint, I prefer to use 3M Drafting tape, available at most art supply stores & some craft stores. It is a lo-tac tape & will eliminate the paint pull up problem, assuming the paint was properly applied. The 3M blue painters tape is a good second choice, but is slightly more aggressive than the drafting tape.

my forehead being the site of major oil deposits is unsuitable for lowering the tackiness of masking tape. it just completely loses the tackiness :(

If it's too sticky, try putting it on your forehead for a second before you apply it to the model-- the oils on your skin will lower the tack just a bit. If you have little bits of adhesive left on the model, hit 'em with some fresh tape. The adhesive sticks to itself better than the model, so you can just lift them off. It'll probably take a few passes.

I've heard of people using blue making tape. I don't know the actual name of it, but I think it's called blue drafting tape. I use Tamiya Tape, you can get it from any hobby shop and it works very well.

3M painters masking tape might be available at walmart or home depot.
